abstract

Jalan Masjid India is still locked in a time capsule, still keeping the identity of the place, continuing to invite tourist. Conversely under its multiple urban fabric, lies an issue of habitual cause and effect that was either brought by the tourists or developed by the inner dwellers themselves.

The charm of Jalan Masjid India is the bazaar and the family-owned businesses, some are generations old. This project explores the effects and possibility of the street market operating in Jalan Masjid India. Through observation, visitors tend to shop more from the streets rather than the bazaar or the stores. Assuming the street market stays as it is profitable to the city council; with the street market stealing the attention away from the old-timers, what will be the fate of Jalan Masjid India? Will it stay true to its identity, or will it fall prey to the street vendors- losing its charm, once and for all? Predictions of 25-year gaps were done.
